Take a Look at This Heart

Soul meets substance in a documentary about love and sexuality in the disabled community

The documentary film Take a Look at This Heart examines the persistently taboo subjects of love and sexuality amongst people with disabilities. Prior to the movie's release, the director and producers were looking for a way to share the soul of the film through online and IRL community building.

By forging partnerships on and offline with the disability community, academic institutions, non-profits and film festivals, we built a community rapidly building up to the release.

We approached Social Media as a place to ask questions and host conversations in order to allow the disability community to speak for themselves. Our content often highlighted these conversations and supplemented them with journalistic research.

For example, in response to many questions about whether the film included LGBTQ voices, rather than simply responding "yes", we also provided more information about LGBTQ and disability intersections.

Live screenings were an opportunity for the film's participants to answer questions and deepen the conversation. In addition to participating in documentary and disability film festivals, we also held screenings at hospitals, academic institutions, and with disability non-profits.
